Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) suffered another major tragedy as their plane bound for Saudi Arabia was unable to take off as smoke filled the cabin.
Passengers and crew alike were given a run for their lives, as the supposed ‘best’ airline in the nation succumbed to technical failure.
Flight PK 3539 was just another routine trip to take pilgrims to the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah; however it turned out to be a nightmare for those customers, who broke the bank to fulfill their Islamic duties.
According to a worried passenger, the flight continued to taxi and was about to fly, when all operations were cancelled and everyone was hurried due to the presence of smoke in the cabin.
“When we boarded the plane, we felt a strange smell and smoke inside. We complained to the crew but they ignored it and told us it was because of roasted meals,” Shamshad Begum, a female passenger said.
She then went to say that till the people on the plane completely objected to the idea of take-off, the crew were also determined in their efforts to get them in the air, something which could have endangered the lives of everyone on board.
“The plane went for take-off but stopped minutes later when passengers protested strongly and there was chaos,” she said.
All though nothing concrete about the exact nature of the problem has been revealed, PIA official, Sultan Hassan, said that there was a technical failure and it resulted in the smoke.
“The hydraulic system of the plane failed just before take-off and its fumes came inside the cabin.
Hassan also said that they had allowed the on-board customers to board another plane and travel to their respective destinations.
“We off-loaded the passengers and sent them on another plane,” he said.
The already terrorized nation of Pakistan has again been subjugated to a potential disaster from the falling standards of the airline industry. While PIA were not to blame for last year’s horrific plane crash, the company is on the brink of shutting down and today’s events are not helping their cause.
