Apple announced a number of new products at the Worldwide Developers’ Conference on June 11 but buried under the loads of iOS 6 and the new MacBook Pro was the most intimidating and market revolutionizing new feature in the upcoming mobile operating system, a new app called Maps.
It was rumoured prior to the conference that Apple might discard Google’s Google Maps in the new version of iOS. Not only did the telltale hold truth to itself but it also came out behind the curtains with a new face that might change the GPS and navigation market as we know it.
Not only does the new app replace one of the most used mobile applications in the world but it also brings new features with it. There are a number of reasons with Maps that will not only replace Google Maps but also displace the GPS and Sat/Nav enterprises from their current positions.
First, Maps not only brings a full package of the world maps right down to the street details but the application, on the beseeching requests of users, also brings turn-by-turn navigation alongside. Apple has the tendency to do something that has a very small virtual footprint but it has after affects on such a gigantic magnitude that it simple changes the market trends.
The new application is fed with the map databases from GPS service providers, TomTom. However, it is not a paid application. TomTom has signed a strategic partnership with Apple to feed the app with updated maps from all around the world. Maps is pre-installed in the iOS just like Google Maps and will be available to the users right upon the purchase of new iPhone or iPad come Fall. Moreover, the upgrade to iOS 6 from iOS 5 and 4 will also include the application in the package.
