Quetta mourns attack on Shia Pilgrims, City Shut Down

A strike is being observed on Thursday (today) in Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province in Pakistan, following Wednesday’s suicide attack on a bus of pilgrims. At least three people died while 31 others were injured, six of them critically, when an explosive laden car blew up as the bus carrying Shia Pilgrims passed nearby. The bus was entering the Akhtarabad area of Quetta from Iran when this incident happened.

The call for strike was given by Majlis-i-Wahdatul Muslimeen (MWM), which many consider as the political wing of the Shia Muslims.  In response to the strike call, Alamdar Road, Hazara Town, Kirani, Marriabad and other commercial centres remained completely shut down. There was very little to no traffic on the road as well as the city mourned yet another sectarian episode involving Shia community.

In response to this attack Chief Minister Balochistan Dr Abdul Malik Baloch has moved to form a security committee, which he will head personally and formulate strategies for fool-proof security for pilgrims leaving and entering Pakistan. A FIR against unknown assailants has also been lodged.

Muslims killing muslims and that too viciously is very-very sad and strange to read and learn. Why the international community does not come forward to help in ending the centuries-old feud between the two sects, atleast now, in the 21st century ?
