Measures adopted by punjab government to root out dengue virus
Friday, October 14th, 2011 8:14:36 by Asma AltafAs the deadly Dengue virus is haunting in Punjab like a ghost, especially in the city of Lahore, the Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif of the province has taken different steps in eradicating this disease causing mosquito.
Recently, during a special committee meeting conducted on October 12, against Dengue virus, the Minister has decided to appoint environmental police in the Punjab, to keep a strict eye on the implementations of the measures designed to get rid of Dengue attack.
Shahbaz also asked the chairmen of the town emergency committees to inspect the trust hospitals on the regular basis besides government hospitals, and they would be supposed to submit a daily report about the medical aids in these hospitals. He also ordered the chairman of surveillance committee to visit different hospitals to check the complete elimination of the larva. To root out the virus from the province, the CM Punjab suggested making a documentary movie showing the detection of larva and methods of its removal to help people to eradicate the larva from the houses even. He also urged Ulema to create awareness among the people during Friday’s sermons and also asked to motivate people for participating in the ongoing campaign against Dengue.
The regulations adopted by the Punjab government are supposed to be strictly followed till Nov 30, 2011. As per these regulations, all the citizens were supposed to strictly follow the preventive measures at the houses shops, offices, go-downs, workshops, factories and other places.
The CM also appointed spraying teams, who were bound to spray in almost all dengue hit areas of the province. In addition, the government is also reported to import machinery and medicines to provide the best possible facilities to the patients.
Other than these, the CM Punjab himself has been visiting different hospitals to check the working and facilities provided to the affectees. As a part of precautionary step, earlier he also directed schools and colleges to remain closed for 10 days. In September, he also changed the timings of school from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm; however, the idea has not been more successful as it created traffic issues. Ultimately, Shahbaz Sharif directed to resume the previous timings of schools from 8:00 am to 1:30 pm.
He also invited some Sri Lankan and Indonesian health experts and consultants to properly guide about the Dengue Virus. In addition, the training programs were introduced to guide the doctors, nurses and paramedical staff of private hospitals regarding techniques for decreasing this Dengue Virus.
The Government Health Department in Punjab has also issued a toll free helpline number for providing immediate help and guidelines regarding Dengue attack. The banners have been erected at different areas of the province showing the following toll free number — 0800-99000.
To assist the Dengue affectees, the government of Punjab ordered to cut short the Test fee of this fatal disease to Rs.90 and directed all the medical institutes to follow the instructions.
All these efforts put in by the Punjab government seem to be successful to some extent, as recent report in a private TV channel showed that the rate of death by Dengue Virus attack has reduced a little bit.
