Dissbelief – The future of Pakistani music

Contrary to popular belief, the ‘double s’ in “DissBelief” is not a typo, it signifies the rebellion against one’s current beliefs. The underground band from Islamabad started off back in 2005. However, the line-up kept on changing until they settled for
one in 2009.
We are all living in an era which is being governed by mainstream music. Despite having a large amount of underground bands in Pakistan, the quality has been deteriorating. However, one band managed to rise even on such an occasion – DissBelief.
The lead guitarist, Fahad Humayun Chohan, is the only band member who was a part of the band back in 2005. The extremely talented guitar player (composer and producer), has helped DissBelief become one of the best underground bands in Islamabad.
Fahad helped DissBelief reach where it is today after reforming it back in 2009. The current band line-up was selected by Fahad himself. He takes the major decisions in the band and he is the one who chose the current band line-up.
DissBelief’s line-up includes Sumair Saeed on vocals, Hammad Khalid on rhythms, Uloomi Karim on Bass, Najeeb Aftab on drums, and Fahad himself on leads. This line-up helped the band reach great heights as they managed to win a lot of battle of the bands
in the city.
After making their “K2 Channel” debut, they were able to win three “Battle of the Bands” in a row.
DissBelief have now released three singles; among which “Aaj Phir” gathered lots of attention from the public. The Islamabad-based underground band also managed to release a video of the song called “Bezubaan,” which has been aired on K2 Channel.
Staying true to their “melodic metal-core” genre, the band is highly influenced by international bands such as Bullet for My Valentine and KillSwitch Engage. DissBelief is not afraid to shy away from the mainstream music that is plaguing us today. The band
seems to be on a mission to revive the sub-genre of rock music that is “metalcore.”
Fahad’s love for the sub-genre “alternative rock” simply reflects in all of DissBelief’s songs. However, the band showed diversity when they released the unplugged version of their first song “Aaj Phir.” Despite having three original songs, DissBelief are
famous for covering Sweet Child O’Mine – a legendary track by the famous band called Guns n Roses.
DissBelief will soon be coming out with an album as they are struggling in the underground music industry and want to be recognised as a mainstream band. From what they have managed to achieve in the underground music industry, they deserve to become a part
of the huge Pakistani music industry.
