Oppositions should wait until 2013 elections, says PM Yousaf Raza Gilani
Monday, October 17th, 2011 9:38:16 by Waqas MunirPrime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani said those who wanted power or looking for miracle to happen must wait for their time and should not think for shortcuts until the next elections to be held in 2013.
Talking to journalists at the oath taking ceremony of the Lahore Press Club’s executive body here at the Aiwan-e-Iqbal, he completely refused the rumours that the Government of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) was at stake. He added that those who were trying to create problems for the PPP government were afraid of its expected victories in upcoming senate elections in March 2013. He also added that these power wishers did not want government to present its fifth budget.
He said that we benefited Nawaz Sharif by introducing 18th amendment, which retracted an article in the constitution excluding a person from becoming chief minister, president or the prime minister for the third time. He added that we have no concerns about the benefits Nawaz Sharif received with the restoration of the original 1973 constitution.
Yousaf Raza Gillani said our government respect all those institutions that function within the boundaries set by the constitutions.
“Even peons do not like to share their powers, but the president handed over all his authority to the prime minister and parliament,” He said.
Answering to a question, he dismissed the thoughts that foreign policies was being made by the General Headquarters (GHQ), instead he claimed that it was our government which was making the country’s policies. He also added that PPP government had not indulged in any conflicts with Army Chief (General Ishfaq Pervaiz Kiani) or Chief Justice of Pakistan (Chuadry Iftkhar Hussain) like previous government has been doing. We wanted to move forward with the consent of all the stakeholders, he said.
He added. “For the first time in the history of the country the services chiefs briefed the parliament on different issues like the killing of Osama bin Laden.”
He also emphasised that Pakistan wanted strong ties with United States based on equality and self-respect. Replying to a question about the US drone attacks, he said PPP government had the same concerns as everyone has on the country’s sovereignty. Prime Minister also admired Imran Khan, Shujaat Hussain, Nawaz sharif and others for participating in the All Parties Conference.
