Public Transport Reforms: Subways and Inter-City Trains

Continuing the discuss on how our local transport system in the city of Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan can be reformed, we will introduce another aspect which would be one giant step in revolutionising the process. That would be to introduce subway’s and inter-city trains.

Before talking about the benefits, the first thing that arises in the minds of many people when the idea is shared to them is the pollution and soliciting that would be caused by making underground subways and such methods of transportation.

The major issue would be people soliciting in areas of the subways and literally living there, creating an undesirable environment and a dirty image overall of the system. Before any practical steps are taken, ensuring that these areas remain comfortable for all types of people to use in terms of crime and cleanliness, proper teams to monitor it should be created.

Subways and above ground trains will immensely benefit our nation, which is densely populated with people who require such methods of transportation, ultimately creating a large system of revenue collection for the governments, whether provincial or federal.

It can be seen that local busses and rickshaws have taken over our streets and have polluted all areas in terms of smog and noise. Building the above mentioned facilities will also help in phasing out these unwanted vehicles and thus creating employment for the jobless.

The idea is modern and will take Pakistan into the next generation along with being highly favourable seeing how many trains are used to commute in-between cities, but it is easily observable that it would take time and thus require immense patience during the time the long-term construction, potentially taking many years to do.

Underground subways are created for this exact purpose and that is to allow for a transportation facility underground and saving space for further developments above ground because it is not hard to notice that we are running out of space in our major cities.

Other than all the land relating benefits, trains are also a very economical way to move around due to the mass amount of people that can use them at the same time instead of a two-seater rickshaw.

Many subways around the world can be observed to cost a fraction of the price it would require in order to maintain a car or use transport like rickshaws for the same period of time.

In the end, subways are economical, safe, convenient and environmental friendly, making them the ultimate solution to Pakistan’s current local transport woes.
