When love bleeds in your Arms- Story of a true Struggle
Tuesday, October 18th, 2011 7:08:51 by Khayyam BokhariBack in the 90’s when the world was not a complete global village we used to hear from our parents that how our ancestors and great leaders gave their blood and soul to make this country worth living. Well these stories are rare to be found now. However, the situation is somewhat similar.
After independence, Pakistan was cognized as a country which had all the possibilities of becoming the greatest nation of all times. However, there were always certain elements that always wanted our country to stay under external control.
Well that’s just the one speculation by our analysts, yet do we realize the real problem? How is it possible that a nation is controlled like a puppet by some super power and does not have its’ own will to bring a change?
We all have heard stories of bravery for example, a 17-year-old kid, Muhammad-bin-Qasim, became a general of an army to conquer whole of Sindh, however, I have seen much more brave people in my life who are not rich and powerful generals neither they are social activists working for some personal or global cause.
A beautiful couple living abroad went on to marry each other and started an ever divine relationship. Heavenly as it could be, they enjoyed every bit of it. As the time went on God gifted them with children, two adorable baby boys with a difference of merely 3 years.
With the passage of time, the couple gave the two lovelies everything they ever wanted. Growing up, made their parents dream of their kids going to school and then becoming two handsome grooms. Like normal children, the two kids used to go out with their parents, played in the park, and had a cheerful life.
As the elder son touched 5, he started to have problems while playing. While he ran, he used to fall down as if his muscles did not have enough power to hold him up. His parents made a visit to the local doctor expecting some kind of vitamin deficiency. However, what they were told was heart trembling and left the two parents in misery for all of their life.
Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a progressive neuromuscular disorder, is muscle weakness associated with muscle wasting with the voluntary muscles being first affected, especially affecting the muscles of the hips, pelvic area, thighs, shoulders, and calf muscles. Muscle weakness also occurs in the arms, neck, and other areas, but not as early as in the lower half of the body. Calves are often enlarged. Symptoms usually appear before age 6 and may appear as early as infancy. The other physical symptoms are: awkward manner of walking, stepping, or running.
In other words, this disease results in muscle degeneration, difficulty in walking, breathing, and eventually, death. The incidence is 1 in 3,000. Anyhow, the kid was taken back home as there was as such no cure for this disease.
Thinking that they at least had another child as this disease was 1 in 3000, the second child was also diagnosed with this disease. Some of us would certainly give up in a situation like this, but the mother never gave up. Watching her children falling down every time they tried to walk, unable to walk then making them crawl to lift up any hope left in those kids to live.
Eventually those kids did not have the power to walk even. Imagine the intensity of pain that mother had when she lifted her 7 year old kids knowing the fact that they would die before she could ever see them walk, talk or enjoy the joys of life. Imagine a father who saved all his lives income to finance his two boys and both did not have more than 20 years of life.
The maximum age for these diseased children is 21 and at the moment the elder one just celebrated his 21st birthday or might as well his last. Knowing the fact that they are not going to live for long never made them week. They themselves agree that their mother and father have been more loving and caring before they had the disease.
I salute the parents having the courage to see your own flesh and blood disintegrating slowly whereas I cleaned my eyes several times while only writing this story. We listen to thousand stories of bravery; however, I feel these parents have crossed the dimensions of the word “Brave”. I pray that Allah blesses the kids with a miracle and answer to the relentless effort the two parents have done taking care of their children.
“And when you long to hear our voice mother, we shall see from up above remember the time you carried us when we were young and unable to walk. We shall remember the times you watched over us. It is hard to believe that you loved us more than yourself and we are sorry we could not ease your pain when you bled the most”- From the diary of the two kids.
