Hacker of Supreme Court website tracked by Federal Investigation Agency (FIA)’s cyber crime wing tracks

Demanding an immediate ban on pornographic sites in the country, Hacker, ‘Zombie KSA’, defaced the website of Pakistan’s apex court on September 27. Apart from this the culprit left dismal remarks against the judiciary in general and harsh words against the chief justice of Pakistan, to be specific.

A senior official of the FIA while speaking exclusively to Dawn on condition of anonymity said, “This was the second hacking of the website and it was a huge concern for us.”

Previously, the website of Supreme Court was also hacked by two boys in September, 2010. As both of them were under the age of 18, they were granted bail by the court on April 11.

The official added, “We have traced the hacker through their online footprints and will approach the Interpol to help us in nabbing the culprit. Zombie is on the run on the internet since we have been tracing him through different internet protocols and filters.”

The hacker was tracked from his KSA signature, which meant that he was situated in the area of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The official also said that the hacker had made other attempts to make inroads into federal government websites during the last one month, but his attempts were foiled by information security experts.

While speaking about the hackers, he said, “There is a forum of hackers working 24/7 against different websites across the globe but we are very precise about our target (Zombie.) We were monitoring his online communication on different chat forums.”

The FIA official added that once arrested, a case would be registered against the hackers under the Electronic Transaction Ordinance 2002. Sources also revealed that the hackers were based in Riyadh, but they were of Pakistani origin. He added, “We will also seek the help of relevant Saudi intelligence officials in case Zombie ran away from his current location.”

Adding his remarks to whether stricter security protocols would be implemented to foil any hacking attempts in future, he said the cyber crime wing had already started a technical audit of the Supreme Court’s main website server.

He said, “The technical audit will help us plug all those loopholes which contain an easy access of hackers to the main server.”
