Karachi will be hosting the International coal conference on 22nd October to create awareness among all walks of life regarding energy security for Pakistan.
The Sindh, being the richest province with natural reserves, is also endowed with one of the biggest coal (lignite) deposits in the world. It has more than 185 billion tons of coal reserves including 175 billion tons in Thar region which can generate approximately 100,000 Megawatts of electricity. Above all, these coal reserves can provide energy solutions to Pakistan for the next three hundred years.
Taking all these facts under consideration, the Government of Pakistan and the Provincial Government of Sindh has taken a greater initiative for organizing an International Coal Conference at Karachi to develop Thar coal deposits. This conference will certainly showcase the utmost potential in the Thar region that will eventually attract investment from all parts of the world.
The government of Pakistan is expecting a wider audience on the conference day including some renowned international and national coal sector specialists, potential investors, existing project developers, representatives of development financial institutions, members of Thar Coal Energy Board, Provincial Ministers, Secretaries of varied Departments, officers of associated Federal and Provincial agencies and diplomatic corps and are expected to attend the conference.
This conference will try to create awareness regarding investment potential of Coal reserves of Sindh and will emphasize on Government of Pakistan/Sindh’s commitment & initiatives in the development of coal deposits, including Coal mining, power generation and other uses of Coal.
A country like Pakistan, which is suffering from immense energy crisis, needs more energy solutions than any other country in the world. Not only will this coal conference help Pakistan resolve the energy crisis, but will also help country’s Coal & Energy Development Department in the foreseeable future.
