An Indian famed director, Mira Nair’s has started working on her latest venture, “The Reluctant Fundamentalist”.
The movie is based on Mohsin Hamid’s bestselling novel with an identical name. Pakistani fashion model Meesha Shafi is set to make her debut and will be working alongside Kate Hudson, Liev Schreiber and Kiefer Sunderland in the movie.
Kate Hudson=Rest of the cast includes Bollywood sensational actress Shabana Azmi and the Film fare lifetime achievement award winner, Om PuriOm puri.
Mira Nair admitted that the fragrance of her native soil brought her to back India, She said:
“I don’t have to look after the family, my son has grown. I am returning to Mumbai from next year on with The Reluctant Fundamentalist that will be shot 50% in India. This is our story and I would be happy to be back here and speak of the tales of the soil”.
Mira Nair, An honourable degree holder from Harvard University, started her direction off with a movie named “Salaam Mumbai” for which she was nominated in the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film (1989).
The talented director has directed a host of popular movies up till now, with “Amelia” been her latest venture, featuring Hollywood’s cutest couple arguably, Richard Gere and Hilary Swank.
Having already worked with Natalie Portman, Reese Witherspoon and Uma Thurman, the 53-year-old has set her sights on the talented young actress, Meesha Shafi better known as the Jugni girl after singing alongside the Pakistani folk master, Arif Lohar at Coke Studio.
A mother to a baby boy, Meesha Shafi has already worked in some TV serials, “Muhabbat Khawab ki Soorat” and “Ye Zindagi to woh nahi”.
Speaking on the idea for the upcoming movie, Mira Nair said:
“My father lived in Lahore before the partition of India and Pakistan. I am inspired to make a contemporary movie about Pakistan, especially in this day and age when the perceived schism between Islamists and the Western World becomes more pronounced.”
“The Reluctant Fundamentalist” is produced by Lydia Dean Pilcher and some scenes have already been filmed in New York, Atlanta, Lahore, Delhi and Istanbul. Reports in India suggest that this movie will hit the stores in 2013.
