Sanjay Leela Bhansali: Friendship in Bollywood is difficult!

Bollywood film-maker Sanjay Leela Bhansali has said that Friendship in India film industry is difficult because there is a lot of competition among actors and actresses.

Bhansali admitted that Bollywood actors and actresses are very friendly, warm and nice, even there are a lot of people in film industry who are friends of him for long. But despite to all, real friendship is tough in Bollywood.

The 48-year-old man had strained relationships with some actors and actress of Bollywood including Ajay Devgn, Rani Mukerji, Aditya Chopra, Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor due to some reasons.

Bhansali described the conditional nature of friendship in B-town as, “Bollywood is a competitive place. If friendship means that I have to work with the same actors because that’s what friendship is, then I don’t believe in a friendship like that. That becomes a liability — a liability that you are bound to a person.”

Meanwhile, he explained an ideal friendship in Bollywood. Talking to reporters, Bhansali commented, “I feel a good friend in the industry is a person who says, ‘Ok, you’ve made a film with me, we had a great working relationship. Now, if your other script demands another person, it doesn’t mean you’re taking anything away from me, or you are betraying me or backstabbing me’.”

Bollywood film-maker, Bhansali added that an ideal friendship is different in an Indian film industry. He explained that if he has worked with a director, an actor, who is male or female, and he does not repeat them after that, and then there is no more friendship.

Bhansali is known for Indian superhit films, like Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Devdas, Black and Guzaarish. He has few friends in the film industry, but he is not complaining.

He talked to the media and stated that he, in particular, may not have had a lot of friends in Bollywood, but he does not have enemies either. In addition, he said that a good, healthy relationship with colleagues is what this industry needs, and he has tried to find and keep healthy relationships.

Bhansali also finds a true friend in former beauty queen Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, with whom he worked in two superhit movies Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Devdas.

Bhansali commented that Aishwarya makes a good friend because at least he did not have to give explanations as to why he did not cast her in Saawariya and Black.
