Faraz Anwar – Pakistani guitar maestro

In one of his recent interviews, Faraz Anwar stated that choosing to play guitar was just by chance, adding that if he had some other instrument, he would have mastered that as well. But in reality, it was rather something different, or maybe it was watching Yngwie Malmsteen perform in one of his videos which inspired Faraz to make the guitar his ultimate pick.

However, whatever it may be, Faraz Anwar, has now grown into one of Pakistan’s finest guitar maestros, famous for his imposing command over the six string instrument, and is considered as an icon for the country’s young and upcoming guitarists.

To give it all a reality check – the first time Faraz picked up the guitar was when he watched Malmsteen execute his exceptional finger works on a fret board in a video, soon after which the young gun knew exactly what he wanted.

Soon after taking up his passion, Faraz learnt the basics from Adnan Afaq, but topped it all through the guitar lesson videos of Paul Gilbert and became a staunch follower of Allan Holdsworth, Steve Morse and Steve Vai.

Over the years, Faraz’s fame earned him a solid name in Pakistan’s mainstream music, soon after which the guitarists offered his tuneful services to some of the country’s greatest Pop singers, Ali Haider, Dr. Nadeem Kazmi, Fakhr-e-Alam, Junaid Jamshed and many more.

However, for Faraz, it was more than just being regarded as a session player or a featured artists, but with time, the guitarists went on to prove his real mettle with the instrument when he roared internationally after the release of his solo album, Abstract Point of View – which earned him international recognition, especially after Allan Holdsworth appreciated his works which earned him a place among Gnarly Geezer artists.

Faraz then moved on to one of his death metal project ‘Dusk’, in association with Babar Sheikh, but then proved his worth after bringing alive one of the few metal bands in Pakistan, Mizraab.

The band has already snatched a good share of the market, and with a couple of albums already released, Faraz Anwar still retains his might as the nation’s best guitarists.
