Banning Indian Films – Will it work?

Friday, October 21st, 2011 6:33:41 by

Pakistani actors, writer, producers and other people affiliated to the film making have raised their voice against the airing of Indian films in Pakistani cinemas.  They have protested to ban Indian films so that their own films can receive some appreciation. They have alleged Indian movies for their own failure and instead of standing up to the challenge they have decided to stand against it. Meera, Moamar Rana, Syed Noor, Shan and a few others participated in the protest.

A well known phenomenon in marketing is that competition forces the firms to utilize their resources in optimum manner but here we see that film makers are afraid of competition and want to get rid of it so that they can enjoy monopoly. But they need to be aware of the technology these days; banning movies from cinema would not decrease the viewership of Indian movies as people can still download them.

Film makers should stop moaning about the fact that Indian movies at Pakistani cinemas have lead to the disastrous turnover for their movies; it’s not Indian movies that doomed them but their own third class production and pathetic story making.

They need to learn something from ‘Khuda Ke Liya’ and ‘Bol’ that were also released in the same circumstances but rocked the world and gained viral fame right after their premier. Realistic story making and brilliant acting will yield fruitful returns for the Pakistani film makers, not moaning. They need to get rid of those old fashioned fictional love stories and need to introduce social issues in their film making; so that people can relate the stories with their own lives.

Syed Noor stated that Indian film makers should incorporate more Pakistani actors in their movies and use the idealistic sceneries of North Pakistan in their movies but at the same time he is appealing to ban Indian movies; there is no single motto or agenda of our film makers because they are not true professionals and are not at all honest with their job.

Banning Indian films in Pakistan would also reduce the profits of cinema owners and this would not be acceptable to any of them because no businessman wants to lose its customers for lame excuses. There are already limited cinemas left in Pakistan and there is a huge probability that they will also disappear if Indian movies are banned.

There is a need for good film making rather than banning someone else’s productions. Educated film makers should step up to save the sinking ship and raise it to world class standards so that viewers step in the cinemas to witness Pakistani productions as well.
