Many people measure a nation’s value through the equal distribution of wealth, and hence choose to completely ignore the issue of creation of wealth (and the reduction in incentive which results from it).
They measure the value of a country on the equality of that distribution – not on the average standard of living, or even on the equality of opportunity of the country.
The protests adopted by global anti-capitalism who took to the streets, a group of Pakistani’s gathered to do the same but in a peaceful way. The result was a seminar arranged here in Islamabad, where the speakers expressed their views at the youth seminar.
They also spoke on Poverty alleviation vs. Capitalism’ and urged the government to enhance the tax-base to mobilise more resources for social sector development, and to take timely measures for equal distribution of wealth.
Former Secretary General Foreign Affairs, Akram Zaki, said that “we need to reform our society based on the social justice. The government should tax all the rich and spend the resources on the poor to lead the country on the path of a welfare state.” He added that “almost all the poverty related issues can be solved, if the government genuinely spends at least 15 per cent of the budget on the welfare of the poor.”
The message was clear in the seminar, that people themselves have to take steps to ensure resource allocation for the needy and poor after cutting down on spending.
The youth was urged to take the message across for social justice. The thought-provoking discussion was organised by Islamabad Crescent Lions Club (ICLC), Development Communications Network (DEVCOM-Pakistan), Human Capital Management Institute (HCMI), and Saba Trust arranged the seminar in collaboration with the Federal Directorate of Education at Islamabad Model College of Commerce for Girls, F-10/3.
Pakistan has been under some serious debt in the past four years, and the debt has increased up to 11 trillion from 5 trillion.
It is time for policy makers to shift their focus and take drastic measures to rid our country of this financial enslavement for the well being of the society.
