The Mechanic – Someone Has to Fix the Problems: Now Showing in Pakistani Big Screens
The R-rated action thriller, The Mechanic, finally hits Pakistani cinemas after a yearlong wait. It was released internationally on 28thJanuary but it arrived in Pakistani theatres on 22nd of October.
The movie is a remake of 1972 Charles Bronson starring film with the same name. The 2011 version is starred by Jason Statham who stars as Arthur Bishop, a mechanic – an elite assassin who specialises in making his targets look like an accidents or suicides etc. He has a strict code and unique talent for cleanly vanquishing its targets. Best in the business and demanded by everyone, Bishop has professional perfection and total detachment. However when his mentor and a close buddy Harry, played by Donald Sutherland, was murder, all he wants to do is to punish those responsible.
His goal got complicated when Harry’s son Steve, starred by Ben Foster, approaches him with same mission and an eagerness to learn Bishop’s business. A deadly bond between the two was formed but en route to their ultimate goal, deceptions surfaced and those who fix other’s problems became problems themselves.
With the exception of Trio No. 2 in E-flat major for piano, violin, and violoncello of Franz Schubert, all songs were written and composed by Mark Isham.
The ninety-three minutes long movie received a score of 53 percent from 144 critics with an average rating of 5.6 out of ten. Roger Ebert awarded the film two out of four stars and said, “Audiences have been drilled to accept noise and movement as entertainment. It is done so well one almost forgets to ask why it has been done at all.”
Due to film’s violent content, its advertisement was banned. It showed a man’s head exploding and also showed a stream of violent imagery.
Regardless of these drawbacks, the action flick grossed $11.4 million on its opening weekend in the US and Canada. Till date, it grossed $29.1 million and earned a worldwide total of $45.8 million.
Simone West’s The Mechanic is a movie with a roller coaster of action and adventure, mystery and suspense. If you love thrillers and actions movies, then it’s a good way to spend your weekend.
