Dengue pandemic doesn’t stop, claiming five more lives in Lahore

The dreadful dengue pandemic does not stop, claiming five more lives in the city of Lahore, on Monday, October, 24th. The total death toll has surged to 303 in the provincial capital.

Muhammad Ashraf, 25, a resident  of Town Ship, Khalid Hassan, 34, a resident  of Kot Lakhpat, Muhammad Omar, 22, an inhabitant of Sheikhupura and 22 years old Rizwan lost their lives due to dengue fever at Jinnah Hospital. Meanwhile, Abrar, a resident of Badami Bagh succumbed to dengue at Mayo Hospital, on Monday.

According to reports from various hospitals and healthcare centres, around about 175 dengue patients were tested positive in the provincial capital. It takes the total number of dengue sufferers up to 30,000, of whom, 17000 dengue victims belong to Lahore alone. The dengue pandemic seems to be worst and worst with the passage of time in the city of Lahore and no one has found active to control over the dengue.

Meanwhile, The Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Mian Muhammad Shazbaz Sharif applauded for the scintillating efforts of the medical practitioners, officials, nurses and paramedical staff in the dengue preparedness campaigns in the province. He stated that every single measure was being taken in an attempt to control over dengue in the metropolitan area.

Moreover, The CM Shazbaz Sharif said that the Punjab government is thankful to the Sri Lankan team of medical doctors, who have played a critical role in the eradication of the dengue epidemic up till now. Furthermore, he admitted that people have been criticising the Punjab government’s efforts, but it is indeed a time to work as a collective unit to beat the dengue. The civil society, governmental and non-governmental organizations, hospitals, welfare societies and NGOs have to play a critical role as a collaborative unit in the eradication of the dengue.

The intimidating dengue pandemic is predicted to continue on in the Punjab capital up till the month of December. Every day, almost five to ten people are losing their lives due to dengue virus in Lahore. It reveals that necessary measures for the control of dengue have not been taken properly.

On the other side, many new dengue cases have been reported in various other regions of the Punjab, such as Faisalabad, Multan, Okara, Sahiwal, Gujranwala and so on. Despite the Punjab capital, several new dengue cases have been reported in the other provincial areas of the country, such as Quetta, Peshawar, Malakand, Swat and many others.

In short, dengue has been evolved as a chronic disease across the country.
