The people residing in the Dir region of the Swat valley once again had to face horrific scenes as a bomb blast claimed the lives of four people, including an Anti-Taliban militiaman.
Pakistan’s Swat region was a stronghold of the Taliban till the armed forces drove them out in a massive operation that lasted the last couple of years.
While most of the terrorists have since then fled to other lands, they have not forgotten the identities of those men, who abolished their tyranny. In now common acts of revenge, many soldiers or militiamen involved in the anti-Taliban campaign have been targeted using bombs.
One such killing occurred today in Dir, as a militant, his 12-year-old son and his son-in-law alongside their neighbour were killed when a bomb was triggered by their car.
The Anti-Taliban militiaman, now identified as Aziz-ur-Rehman was on his way to Lower Dir when the tragic accident claimed his life. Local Police chief, Salim Khan Marwat, revealed the details of the blast and said that the device used was probably remote-controlled.
Speaking to reporters, the police officer said that the Taliban had again exacted their revenge and this time utilized a remote controlled device, which also caused harm to two pedestrians.
“The bomb targeted anti-Taliban militia member Aziz-ur-Rehman. His 12-year-old son, a son-in-law and a neighbour who were also travelling in his car were also killed.”
“It was a remote-controlled IED (improvised explosive device) which exploded when the vehicle passed. Two people passing near by the car were wounded,” police chief Salim Khan Marwat was quoted as saying.
Another officer claimed that Aziz-ur-Rehman was on his way from his home in Ghundo to Samar Bagh in lower Dir, a trip which ultimately cost him his own life alongside those of his son, son-in-law and neighbour.
As the Taliban are determined to stamp their authority in Swat once again, the attacks on the armed forces seem to be on the rise. However the hierarchy in Islamabad seem least concerned about the issue and are busy in their own petty problems.
