Pakistan refuels Indian helicopter and allows it to go back after investigating
Pakistan has proved its commitment with India to the peace on Sunday when an Indian Army helicopter that strayed into Pakistan territory with four army officials was sent back after the courtesy of refuelling by the Pakistan Army.
Pakistan and India both have a history of exchanging fire and had this incident taken place in the past, it would have led to some serious tensions between both countries. However, last Sunday on October 23 Pakistan Army allowed an Indian helicopter to go back. Moreover it was also refuelled by Pakistan Army after some high level investigation was done.
Indian army was pleased with the jester shown by Pakistan and one of their army officer explained to the media that their helicopter entered Pakistani territory due to bad weather. He also revealed Indian army has no issues with the high level investigation that was done by Pakistan army, as he insisted their army knows it was not a civilian aircraft.
While speaking on his inclusion, an Indian army officer said: “It is a rough area. The Line of Control (LoC) is not a straight line. Therefore, if the weather is not good, a helicopter can land in the wrong area in an emergency, or even on the other side of the LoC. Civilian aircrafts have right to land in any country in case of emergency, as per international law. But as this was not a civilian aircraft, naturally there was an investigation.”
The Pakistan Army on the other hand claimed the helicopter had come almost 40 kilometres inside Pakistani territory, in the Olding sector of Gilgit-Baltistan, and therefore they forced it to land in Ahmedabad, a small town in Gilgit-Baltistan, around 1 pm.
“The helicopter had come deep into our airspace. It was forced to land,” military spokesperson Major-General Athar Abbas told Reuters.
Previously Pakistan-India Line of Control (LOC) was considered as one of the most hot-blooded borders in the world, as crossfire between their forces alongside the frontier was a routine matter. But both countries agreed to a ceasefire back in 2004 due to which they now have peace among their forces.
