Pakistani Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani has revealed that Nawaz Sharif, Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) chief, is under tremendous pressure due to the growing popularity of Imran Khan, chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
While talking to the journalists at the residence of Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, PML-Quaid president, in Lahore on Sunday, he said that PML-N would face strong competition from PTI in Punjab in the upcoming general elections while addressing reporters at the residence
Mr. Gilani further said that PML-N should look to serve public rather than holding protests like ‘Go Zardari Go’ if they intend to rule the province after the upcoming general elections. The Pakistani PM also stressed upon that PML-N’s rally was an unconstitutional act and an attempt to disgrace the parliament, as Mr. Asif Ali Zardari is an elected president.
He further added that PML-N should show political maturity, as they are one of the mainstream and renowned political parties in Pakistan.
“The PML-N should exhibit political maturity. The party is following an undemocratic and unconstitutional way against an elected president and if they are trying to warm up for elections then it is too early to do so”, he said.
The Pakistani PM also advised Shahbaz Sharif to bring Punjab back in the mainstream politics. When asked about Mr. Shahbaz’s recent accusation on the federal government of indulging in corrupt practices, he said Mr. Shahbaz was only ruining the image of his own community. Moreover, the PM also warned the chief minister that other people could also come up with similar allegations against him.
Pakistani Prime Minister stressed that PML-N should respect the mandate of other parties and revealed that PML-N should learn from Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), which had never tried to bring down their government in Punjab.
