The new Asus Zenbook UX31E-DH52 is out with much more to offer
Wednesday, October 26th, 2011 5:09:18 by Usman KhalidASUSTeK Computer Incorporated, more commonly known for their brand name Asus, have launched a new ultra-slim laptop, Asus Zenbook UX31E-DH52, thanks to Intel Corporation’s second generation core-built architecture.
Although the name is not very Zen-like as seen in the predecessors to line of notebooks but it still is an amazing machine that is extremely slim, 0.71 inches in breadth to be exact, for portable computing.
The new laptop includes high-end technologies from Intel including a processor and multi-media cards. A second generation 1.7 GHz Core i5 processors serves the brains of the slim device and is supported by a whopping 4 GB of the DDR 3 RAM for even smoother run.
The Zenbook incorporates a 128 GB Solid-State Hard Drive that runs twice as fast as a SATA-based storage device. The hard drive concludes that Asus has finally pulled off a laptop that has no moving parts whatsoever.
However, the stunt comes with a drawback. There is no optical drive (CD/DVD/Blu-ray drive) in it; therefore, one will have to rely on an external DVD-RAM drive.
Bluetooth 4.0 for faster data-transfer; WiFi (IEEE 802.11g) and front-facing 0.3 mega-pixel camera come as standard issues with the device.
The slim-set starts with a price tag of $1099 and goes up to $1449 with different specifications. The high end denomination includes a Core i7 processor with 256 GB hard drive.
However, the upgrades do not make much of a difference as the laptop is only good for movies and songs and select-few high-end video games.
There are full HD graphic and audio cards nested into the circuitry for better audio/video quality on the 13.3-inch WXGA LED screen with 1600×900 resolution, although it will not offer compatibility with the professional high-end graphics and audio support offered by most of the desktops these days.
USB 2.0, micro-USB, micro-HDMi and mini-VGA output ports are on the either edges of the cradle. However, Asus anticipated the hassle of the minis and micros’ compatibilities and included converters’ set in the box.
Windows 7 Home Premium is preinstalled with select-few MS Office suites on trial duration. The full versions can be activated with a serial key available on Microsoft’s website or the official DVD cover.
The new device will surely give a hard time to Apple, Inc.’s Macbook Air, which already is struggling in the market because of the slate computers like iPad, HTC Flyer and Blackberry Playbook.
The new Asus laptop is cheap at $1099 as compared to the $1299 version of the Macbook Air with more or less the same specs. It is anticipated that Zenbook will devour a big slice of market that prefers slim portable devices at cheaper rates.
