Japanese models lead the top 10 reliable vehicles, American brands still struggle in the competition
Thursday, October 27th, 2011 3:14:54 by Usman KhalidJapanese and European brands lead the way in top 100 reliable vehicles of 2011 in the latest survey conducted by Consumer Reports.
Over 1.3 Million vehicle owner were surveyed during the research that was conducted in the first quarter of 2011. Only those cars with more than 100 responses were included in the survey.
Toyota Motor Corporation secured majority of the seats in the list with its various brands; Scion atop the list followed by Lexus in the second position. A total of four Lexus brands are in the top 10 while Toyota Highlander has planted itself at 6th
position.
Nissan and Honda accompany Toyota in the top 10 with various brands while Volvo and Subaru represent the European car makers. Amazingly, there are no American companies in top 10 list however; Chrysler’s Jeep has made news in superseding its American counterparts,
placing itself at 13th position.
Jeep, a brand that was synonymous to low quality, has surely revamped its standards to compete with global market. The brand has leapfrogged its competition in Ford and General Motors in the top 20 reliable cars.
After coming forth from bankruptcy in 2009, Chrysler Group has reshaped itself and its brands are winning the customer confidence rapidly. Nowhere to be seen in 2010’s top 20 brands, the Chrysler pulled off two redesigned brands; the Dodge Durango and Jeep
Grand Cherokee this year that have attracted a lot of attention of late.
However, it is far-fetched that the American brands will ever compete with Japanese cars in the next four/five-year bracket. Low cost and higher reliability have taken the Oriental cars to next level while brands like Lexus and Infiniti are developed around
social classes.
Ford Motors’ 2011 models of Fiesta and Focus were major flops that downed the company’s reputation. GM has been in the jam of late and especially after the bankruptcy in 2009, the company never could stand on its feet.
Over 96 percent of the Japanese models were rated average or above in the survey against a mere 64 percent of the American counterparts.
