Maid: The serpent in disguise (Part 1)

There is a snake creeping in your house, using stealth tactics to strike its unsuspecting prey. Unaware of the lingering threat, you hand-over the responsibility of the house to this serpent and trust it with your possessions, which range from your 42 inch
LCD and microwave, to your dirty vests and smelly socks. This snake is none other than the helping hand that the woman of the house hired: the maid.
After conducting a small survey, it became quite evident that behind almost every domestic crime, there is a hand of a maid. Be it a couple of missing eggs from the fridge, a few missing spoons, mom’s or wife’s missing dupatta, father’s or husband’s missing
shirt, a missing bed-sheet or pillow cover, or something really critical like an armed robbery in the house; there would always be some sort of an involvement of the maid. She would either commit the crime herself or create an opportunity for her husband or
boyfriend to carry out the dirty deed.
The 21st century woman is not the sort that is content with staying at home and watching morning shows such as “Utho Jaago Pakistan” with her mother-in-law. Nor are they the type who would pick up a broom and clean the house, do the utensils and
laundry, or cook something delicious for the males. Looking to raise the standard of living, women have decided to share the burden with men by doing a job and contributing to the house. The working members of the family are away from home for most part of
the day, while the elderly members such as mothers-in-law are normally too old to look after the house, which in turn puts the house at the mercy of the maid.
The maid has become an integral part of the household and holds more knowledge of the house than anyone else. This becomes quite evident in our daily life when we find a man calling the maid instead of his mother or wife to help him in locating his possessions;
be it a missing sock or misplaced ATM card. Women of the house are no different either and don’t really know where their own clothes are hanging, or what happened to a shoe that they bought three months ago and wore only thrice, consequently relying completely
on the hired help to locate these items.
With so much knowledge about everything in the house and hardly anyone to keep a watch on them, it is not surprising to find a maid succumbing to the temptation of committing a crime.
