Murree Road is a terrible sight during the peak hours in the city, and consequently the traffic mess gives tough time to commuters and people who after a tiring day of work are making their way home, but only to find themselves stuck in traffic for durations
unknown.
The traffic carnage is at its peak from Chandni Chowk to Murree Chowk and in between whoever is trying to get to their destinations are stranded, delayed or face various traffic problems due to traffic mismanagement and rules’ violation.
These disgruntled commuters can owe it all to the increasing number of vehicles entering the city everyday and trying to make their way out at the end of each day.
The concerned authorities in their own limited imagination has thought to have worked it all out, when they built the underpass at Committee Chowk, but the problem hasn’t been solved yet and the purpose for spending so much money over an underpass hasn’t
been fulfilled yet.
The problem remains, and is expected to stay that way because the underpass has not facilitated the commuters in managing huge traffic but compelled them to face rush for long hours.
The traffic situation goes haywire in those peak hours, especially when the traffic signals give up and stop working and the officials of traffic never bother to perform their duty properly by controlling the traffic when such incident occurs.
Many times the absence of a traffic policeman is the cause of accidents due to the negligence of van drivers, who apparently seem to be on a rampage and try to make their way out from the narrowest of spaces they could find. Bike riders fall in the same
category when they decide break the rules.
Murree road is the shortest way for the commuters travelling from Rawalpindi to Islamabad but many people use IJP road and other adjacent roads to avoid the traffic mess, Sonia said.
People get to see a variety of vehicles ranging from donkey carts to busses, and the circus gets more amusing for a by stander observing, when van drivers decide to stop where ever they want.
With less trained traffic officials, these scenes will be seen for quite some time and will add to the miseries of the down trodden people of Pakistan.
