The Dewarists take Zeb and Haniya

Pakistan’s folk duo of Zebunnisa Bangash and Haniya Aslam, or more commonly
known as Zeb and Haniya; have taken their ensemble to a whole new dimension after recently featuring on the Indian based television show the Dewarists, where the two collaborated with the country’s renowned musicians,
Vishal Shekhar, Mohit Chauhan and Shantanu Moitra, to release their single, ‘Kya Khayal Hai’.

The Dewarists, season 1 for which is already being aired on Star World, is an original television series, with a documentary cum travelogue feel to it, all based on collaboration amongst inspiring musicians from all over the globe such as
Grammy award-winning singer Imogen Heap and classical folk band Indian Ocean among others – which according to many has already been labelled as a non-commercial version of Pakistan’s ever famous Coke Studio.

As for the Zeb and Haniya piece for the show, the duo, which has already sealed a massive fan following in Pakistan, especially since their last appearance on the season 3 of Coke Studio, has so far received a positive response for their single, Kya Khayal
Hai, with the Indian audience already rating the band with several thumbs up.

Zeb and Haniya made their Dewarists premier on episode 2 of the show, where they were seen exploring Mumbai in search for a brainwave to create a ballad which harmoniously executed in association with Bollywood industry musical mights, Moitra and Swanand
Kirkire.

The well-composed song retained its typical Zeb and Haniya feel to it, especially with their usual addition of linguistic assortment.

In a recent interview, the band’s acoustic guitar player, Haniya, revealed their single received a impressive response from the Indian audiences, which have always appreciated Pakistani music and musicians.

“Indian audiences have always appreciated and respected Pakistani artists. Despite the fact that most Pakistani artists don’t officially release their music in India, people over there still have to access our music through the internet, hence many of our
musicians and their work is well known across India,” she said.
