Nokia Lumia 800 is unlocked and ready for sale

Nokia announced its new smartphone Nokia Lumia 800 on Wednesday, October 27 that will be available to the public in a week’s time in Russia, India, Singapore and Hong Kong for a mere $585 without a contract.

The amazing thing about the phone is that it is dual-band GSM phone which is unlocked to be used all over the world on GSM networks, which is virtually everywhere.

The phone comes with Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7.5 Mango, the latest version of the Windows mobile OS. The phone is powered by a 1.4 GHz single core Qualcomm processor with 512 MB of RAM. Although these specs are a little low-end for a smartphone in the current market, compared to the price, it is definitely a good bargain.

The 3.7-inch curved AMOLED screen is made of Gorilla glass that is claimed to be scratch resistant. The TFT screen is bright enough to work in the open. The back of the phone has an 8 mega-pixel camera that is capable of capturing 720p HD video. There is an LED flash nested besides the Carl-Zeiss camera lens.

The sleek and stylish Lumia 800 has lesser ports and buttons on either sides. There are volume up and down and silent buttons accompanied by a snapshot pusher on the right side and there is a micro-USB port on the left side to connect the phone to a PC or MAC.

WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS come as the standard features however; Nokia has revamped the Nokia locater for the smartphone with precise accuracy. The 0.48 inches thick phone with 5 oz is quite slim and light in the palm and it comes in three different colours; cyan, magenta, and black colours to suit different demographical needs.

On the downside, the phone lacks an external memory option and is fixed at 16 GB of internal storage. However, Nokia offers 32 GB of memory free on Microsoft’s cloud service, SkyDrive.

There are Nokia Music Store and 3G services available with the new phone.
