The song was an immediate mega-hit; steamrolling charts, radio stations, and now a viral on the internet – Maroon 5’s association with Christina Aguilera, which came out with ‘Moves Like Jagger’; probably one of the best tracks released in 2011.
Just the catchy name of the single was enough to grasp one’s attention, leaving aside the exceptional foot tapping upbeat and the mesmerising funky lyrics – all overpoweringly executed by America’s musical mights.
Having said the above, this is where the 24-year-old Pakistani American steps in – Ammar Malik, who is a newly found celebrity in the US music industry, having co-written Moves Like Jagger, alongside Maroon 5’s vocalists, Adam Levine.
Although Moves like Jagger has brought Malik on the fore front of the mainstream media of the country, but for his past projects, the youngster claimed in one his interviews that his alliance with some of New York’s influential song writers as well as Levine,
resulted in Stereo Hearts, performed by the Gym Class Heroes, all of which brought Malik under the spotlight, resulting in a call-up for Moves Like Jagger.
As for his recent stalwart collaboration, Malik, whose parents hail from Pakistan’s Punjab province, revealed that he was given the task of devising a story out of a completely bizarre song title, which is why the label for the fresh release had basically
been just gabble.
However, it was this gabble that managed to catch the eye, or more explicitly speaking, the ears of the audience, soon after which the whole concept started to take on a new meaning.
“The phrase felt right, so we decided to keep it, leaving Adam Levine and I with the unique task of turning the catchy little phrase into something that could come to life, tell a story, and connect to an audience,” said Malik.
“When people sing along with a song, nine out of 10 times they put themselves in the shoes of the artist. They make it their own. The inspiration for “Moves Like Jagger” comes from that dynamic. We wanted everyone to be singing it from their own viewpoint
and embrace the quirky yet saucy self-confidence the song provides to go nuts on the dance floor,” he added.
As for his upcoming assignments, Malik revealed that since he took up music as his profession, singing has been an interest for the 24-year-old, and this is where he sees himself in the near future.
