According to a press release by ISPR, Pakistan has successfully test-fired the Hatf-VII on Friday, October 28th 2011. The missile is named as ‘Babur’ which has the range of 700 kilometres.
Pakistan already has longer ranged missiles but the technology used in Hatf-VII has never used by Pakistan before. The latest designed ‘Babur’ by Pakistan Forces has stealth capabilities which make it untraceable by the radars.
General Khalid Shamim Wynne who is the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee witnessed the test. He was accompanied by Lieutenant General Khalid Ahmed Kidwai, Lieutenant General Tariq Nadeem and Muhammad Irfan Burney.
The military mentioned that “Hatf VII" missile had a range of 700 kilometres (438 miles)” and was a “low-flying, terrain-hugging missile with high manoeuvrability, pin-point accuracy and radar avoidance features. The three tube MLV enhances manifold (times)
the targeting and deployment options in the conventional and nuclear modes".
The missile has the capability to carry nuclear warheads up to the specified range and will certainly strengthen the defence of our nation.
It was revealed on May 2011 that one of the helicopters used in the mission to kill Osama bin Laden had stealth qualities. The helicopter crashed at the bin Laden’s compound during the operation. Reasons for the crash remained unknown but what was known
after the operation was that it was the first publically assigned mission in which stealth technology was used.
Stealth aircrafts were used during the military operation in Libya where 40 bombs were dropped on a Libyan airfield in 2011. It is believed that Russia will launch its first stealth aircraft in 2015.India will make its stealth debut in 2017 with China in
2018.
Some experts believe that Infra-red search and track systems can be used to detect the stealth aircrafts. The idea has not yet been authenticated as of now.
Nevertheless, President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani appreciated the efforts by the engineers and scientists on their exceptional achievement.
Pakistan has now joined the League of Nations with strongest defence as stealth technology is still very rare in terms of its use.
