While addressing to the second Executive Session of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) at the Perth Exhibition and Convention Centre on Friday, the Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani shared his views on the increased support from commonwealth
members.
“Building a resilient Commonwealth is necessary if we are to get to grips with numerous challenges we are facing as individual states, as well collectively on the global plane,” PM said. Pakistani Foreign Minister, Hina Rabbani Khar was also the part of the
session.
In the session, the Prime Minister bring into light the natural disaster that has been faced by Pakistan and narrated that the challenges are not only local, in fact, they become global at the same time.
“It is therefore essential to evolve and put in place appropriate well-integrated mechanisms at local, national and international levels. Without this, our efforts may not yield much."
The Prime Minister also put light on the terrible earthquake of 2005, which caused death of over 80,000 people and the horrific flood that Pakistani nation has faced last year. While also taking benefit of the international audience, Gilani updated them about
the economic losses and the loss of the precious lives that our country has bear in the fight against terrorism and extremism that is present locally and internationally.
Whether it is climate change or terrorism, it is disease or food security, we need each other not only for addressing our present challenges, but also to ensure a better future for posterity.
“Against all odds Pakistan continues to progress steadily under the democratic leadership. Pakistani nation can, therefore, rightly take pride in its resilience with which it has sustained through the crises. Whether it is climate change or terrorism, it
is disease or food security, we need each other not only for addressing our present challenges, but also to ensure a better future for posterity," PM added.
Furthermore, Gillani ensures the international audience that the government and Pakistani nation will completely support the building of a resilient Commonwealth
