Friday, October 28th, 2011 10:29:33 by Umair HassanThe Japanese Film Festival has started in Islamabad at the National Art Gallery with collaboration of Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) and Embassy of Japan as a part of the promising Japanese Cultural Events “2010-2011”.
On Thursday, Mamoru Hosadaa’s distinguished animated film “The girl who leapt through time” was screened for inauguration ceremony, where Ambassador of Japan Hiroshi Oe was also present as chief guest. This particular film, “The girl who leapt through time”
has won many awards including the Japan Academy Prize for animation of the year, Gertie Award for the best animated film and animation Grand Award.
This weeklong Film Festival will certainly bring more awareness among the local film makers to cater diverse ideas of modern film making. The main purpose of this festival is to endow with an opportunity for the people of Pakistan and its culture to know
the very aspects of Japanese culture and its high tech society.
Since the first festival, which was held in 1995, this is now becoming one of the most popular cultural events of the Japan-Pakistan Friendship Fest. The Japanese ambassador also acknowledged this fact and explained in detail regarding different characteristics
of this festival.
He said, “This year, our embassy is holding the Japanese Animation Film Festival for the first time in Pakistan. The Japanese animation works are widely appraised and are known worldwide as ‘anime’. It is different from traditional animation films in terms
of storylines and drawings. The themes and subjects of the anime are meant not only for the young audience but also the adults. I am very pleased to know that the Japanese anime is quite popular even in Pakistan. The anime cartoons such as Dragon Ball Z, Pokemon,
Hello Kitty, Doraemon, and Naruto were very well known among the young people in Pakistan. And for those of you who will be watching the anime for the first time, it is definitely going to open a new window for you.”
The most films which are scheduled to be shown in this festival have been selected to depict the socio-cultural and development of the Japanese people on a larger platform. Introducing the Japanese Anime in Pakistan is very distinctive idea and also aims
to give an exclusive access to the school children on November 01.
