Sialkot develops into 4th biggest manufacturer of sports apparel in the world

Pakistan’s sports apparel hub, Sialkot has become 4th biggest manufacturer of sportswear in the world. Chairman Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA) Ijaz A Khokhar said on Friday and regarded the tremendous growth
of readymade garments and booming sportswear industry in Sialkot.

Mr. Ijaz Khokhar was speaking to reporters and said during a question and answer session that Sialkot is now exporting total 30 percent of worldwide consumption  of sportswear especially martial arts uniforms while we are extensively closing the gap with
China’s worldwide export share in sports apparel. He further added that our industries especially textile and garment are the foremost leading contributors in bringing country’s economy towards improvement more improvement.

On contrary to city’s this achievement, Sialkot is also the fourth largest economic centre in the country after Karachi, Lahore, and Faisalabad and second largest source of foreign exchange earnings after Karachi while ranked highest in Pakistan among per
capita income.

Sialkot has always been known for manufacturing of its sports articles with top class quality.  This industry started off in Sialkot in the beginning of the 20th century and now evolved into one of the biggest sports industries in the world.  

Some world renowned companies like Adidas, Nike, Lotto and Reebok have also set-up manufacturing units as they easily found the required and already trained manpower to run this particular industry.
