Sunday, October 30th, 2011 11:45:17 by Sonia BashirSarhad Rural Support Programme (SRSP) has launched a number of projects to provide safe drinking water to the people of the flood affected areas of district and those
remote areas, which are still without any water supply schemes while the contaminated water has caused outbreak of diseases in the areas.
Addressing a gathering of the village organization at Muzhdeh village of Beori village in the south of Chitral, the social organizers of SRSP Salahuddin and Tariq
Ahmed said that the people of the area were forced to consume the contaminated water since long as the water supply scheme had been washed away by flood last year.
They said that the water supply schemes were being funded by a UK-based organization Catholic Agency for Overseas Development (CAFOD) due to the efforts of the chief
executive officer of SRSP Shahzada Masoodul Mulk.
They added that the provision of safe drinking water has been the major problem of the remote areas of the district. There are so many areas in Chitral without having
the proper sanitation and sewerage system. Likewise, they are facing the problem of clean and potable water. Still the female used to carry pot of water on her head from a large distance to home, which causes different type of weaknesses among the females.
In winter season, water becomes a huge problem because of high snowfall and formation of glaciers. However, SRSP has taken a bold initiative of extending the network of water supply schemes to such areas and presently work was in progress in more than ten
union councils of the district which are being completed on the basis of community participation.
The officers of SRSP vowed to ensure the utilization of each and every penny of the development funds on transparent manner and asked the village organization to
maintain the desired quality of the work.
On this occasion, the representatives of the village organization, Haji Sharif Khan, Umara Khan and others expressed their gratitude to Shahzada Masoodul Mulk for
his keen interest in solving the problem of safe drinking water of the area. They said that SRSP was not a new name to the segregated and remote valley of Chitral while it has already completed a number of projects in different sectors of development.
