Imran Khan’s jalsa on the 30th of October, a load of wind or a turning point in Pakistan’s history?

Lahore is a city that rarely sleeps, Karachi has the honour of being the city in Pakistan that NEVER sleeps, however, not sleeping does not mean that it is alive. Think of Lahore as a city that lies in its bed late at night, listening to music while doing
nothing.
Yet yesterday, on the 30th of October, the city and its people were well and truly awake and will be for quite some time now, at least that is what Imran Khan and his political party, Pakistan Tehriq-e-Insaf, will be hoping.
The night is still fresh in the memory, but it everyone’s minds have rested enough for a less passionate and more objective ‘analysis’. Was the
jalsa a success for Imran Khan’s PTI or was it just another gathering of people that in the end would amount to nothing.
For starters, Imran Khan’s speech was a fearless one and one can do nothing but respect the fact, that he publically stated what everyone in the country was thinking. PML-N leader, Nawaz Sharif and President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari, were both on the
receiving end of some ‘special attention’ from the former cricket captain.
While I still have some respect for Nawaz Sharif for giving this country the M2 motorway, a blessing in more ways than one for the country, Zardari was perhaps let off a little easy by the Khan.
Some may argue that the leader should have focused on his own party and leaders instead of targeting others, yet to be honest it did come as a relief that instead of ignoring the blatant ‘daylight robbery’ that takes place on a daily basis in the country.
He may be labelled an elitist by many, but he took on the voice of the people and more importantly the voice of the people of Lahore and sent it echoing, not just in Pakistan, but around the world.
For now we will leave it at that and give it another day for the moment to sink in a bit more and continue the analysis of what might just be a historic moment for country.
