Last month, Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) announced a grand procession at Minar e Pakistan on 30th of October, 2011 and later on some other political parties also decided to organize some rallies to save Pakistan from the corrupt politicians
and against the sitting government of Pakistan Peoples Party and its allies, which is considered to be one of the worst regimes in the history of the country.
PTI claimed that it would prove its popularity in the procession and that the people of Lahore support Imran Khan to bring a change in the country. They further claimed that the procession at Minar e Pakistan would be much bigger than the rally organized
by Pakistan Muslim League (N), which is also the ruling party of Punjab.
A number of political analysts raised their doubts about the legitimacy of this claim by PTI and stated that it is still a small party as compared to PPP or PML (N) and it is going to be a huge task for PTI to gather a big number of people at Minar e Pakistan,
which has the capacity to fill in five lack.
There is no doubt about the fact that it was a brave move by Imran Khan and his party to hold their procession at Minar e Pakistan as the chances of failure were much higher. However, 30th of October turned out to be the turning point of the political
history of Imran Khan and PTI.
Since last 15 years, Imran Khan was not considered a big threat for the major political forces because his party did not have a proper organization at the grass root level, but the former cricketer proved his critics wrong and showed that he has emerged
as the most popular political leader of the country.
The procession was not only one of the biggest in the history of Pakistan but it was also different to the processions of the other political forces. There was a completely different atmosphere as a big number of people from different classes showed up,
who never attended the political gatherings in past. There were families of the middle class, kids, a huge number of youth and students from different universities. Even the disabled people and the minorities participated in the procession.
The whole atmosphere and the emotions at Minar e Pakistan was electrifying because the people of Pakistan are fed of the current dynastic politics of the two major political forces. People shouted for a change and in their opinion, the former world cup winning
captain of 1992 is the only politician in the country, who can be trusted for a change. Let us hope that it was just a begging of the awakening political awareness in the country. Change is surely in the air!
