The employment market of Pakistan – some analytical observations
Tuesday, November 1st, 2011 4:30:40 by Fayyaz YaseenUndocumented economy has appeared to be a blessing for Pakistan for it is this undocumented economy that is not only witnessing a reasonable growth, but that is also curbing a portion of the rapidly growing unemployment in the country. However, the fact
of the matter is that amid the overall deteriorated economic situation in the country, the undocumented economy is also reaching to its point of satiation.
Having said this, I would admit that the above stated issue is not the point of discussion, what I would like to dwell upon is Pakistan’s employment and the gap between supply and demand of the skills set among the workers of the country.
It is an everyday observation that hundreds of jobs are announced in the newspapers advertisements and on the online job portals; however, this is also a fact that in order to find out the right person for a position, the employers usually have to wait for
weeks and sometimes for months.
On the other hand, being served by rejections upon rejections also create frustration among the youth, however, it seems no one seems bothered about finding out the real reasons behind this phenomenon and addressing the gaps.
The human resource officers of many organizations are of the view that besides completing with their education, if the youngsters could also invest on the right skills set which could lead them towards the sector they wish to join, they can significantly
become capable of addressing the needs of the employers and can overcome their endless unemployment.
Moreover, the thought of starting the career right from an apex level position is also a misguided approach. No employer can give charge of his company or firm to someone who is rather new in the job market and knows nothing about the roles of business.
Rather, they prefer someone who has a complete knowhow of the field, can face the pressure and can overcome the stumbling blocks that appear along the way.
If the youngsters are ready to invest in enhancing their skills and are ready to kick off their careers initially from relatively smaller positions, there can be no hindrance for them in reaching to their dream professional positions.
