Bahria University, Islamabad and Karakoram International University, Gilgit played a football game against each other in Jinnah Stadium, Islamabad. Bahria were the underdogs of the competition but they were still able to hold down a strong looking Karakoram
side as the match ended 2-2.
Bahria University had the advantage of playing in their own city while Karakoram University players travelled all the way from Gilgit, Baltistan.
While the Bahrians received a walkover in their last game as Quaid-e-Azam University’s team did not show up, KIU were able to beat FAST University’s football team in a penalty shootout.
Bahrians played their strongest side as they faced a tough looking team from Baltistan.
The only player missing from BUI’s team was their goalkeeper Nahyan Shahzada, who was reported ill right before the game. The striker, Ali Sawati, took the goalkeeping position instead.
While Ali Sawati guarded the poles, there were four players to aid him in defending the goal. Talha Nadeem, Musa Khan, Abbas and Ihtisham were the four defenders for the Bahrians.
Bilal Khan and Faizan Sameer played in the centre of the pitch while Hasan and Iftikhar played on the flanks. Playing in a 4-4-2 formation, Ahmad Saeed Butt and Ahmad Mehdi played as the two strikers for the Bahrians.
Fouad Ashraf, Areeb Khan, Ammad Raja and Ali Sheroze were the players who were benched for the Bahrians.
The match started off and Bahria University created the first opportunity as Ahmad Mehdi struck his shot wide off the target.
The first half barely saw any of the two sides scoring. Bahria had three shots on target while KIU were barely trying to find the back of the net.
As the second half started, Hasan was taken off and Fouad Ashraf took the left wing position. The substitution did not really look to be troubling KIU but the Bahrians were looking to be a threat in the final third.
Soon, a ball from the Young Men FC’s star midfielder, Faizan Sameer, found Ahmad Saeed Butt right outside the box. The Falcon star made no mistake from the penalty area and flicked the ball past the goalkeeper to find the back of the net.
Only four minutes later, an assist from Ahmad Mehdi found Butt inside the penalty area. Butt was again able to capitalize on the opportunity given to him by the former Chasers player and Bahrians were leading 2-0 within six minutes of the second half played.
KIU then started to put pressure on Bahria’s defence line which had been flawless throughout the game. Despite having a strong defensive line-up, Bahrians were still able to give away a two goal lead and the match ended in a 2-2 draw.
Bahria lost the game 4-1 on penalties as Ahmad Mehdi, Faizan Sameer and Ahmad Saeed Butt, all three failed to score a penalty against the KIU goalkeeper.
KIU has now qualified for the semi final stage of the tournament where they will face the tournament favourites – COMSATS.

How can the Bahrians drop a two goal lead even though they are such brilliant defenders?
There were a few faults with the team which they are still working on. The team performed brilliantly overall. They took the highest shots on goal during the first and the start of the second half.
The offside trap was not well set by the Bahrians. Moreover, they didn’t have their first choice goalkeeper.
Besides this, Bahria also lacked chemistry later in the game. They introduced Ammad Raja in the midfield to hold the ball but their coach decided to take him off after two minutes. It was simply unprofessional how a player came on and left the pitch within 2 minutes.
some decisions taken by our coach were wrong on that time …. he did not use substitutions on right position and RIGHT TIME ….
sad saaaddd saaaaaaaaaaadddddddddddddd 🙁
