Underage Driving: A step towards self destruction
Wednesday, November 2nd, 2011 7:44:15 by Ahmed BabarRash driving is a major problem as it is one of the main reasons behind the road accidents. It is observed that youth is more attracted towards driving fast and they enjoy seeing the speed needle touching its limits.
Driving fast is dangerous and there is no question about it. It is comparatively much more difficult to handle a fast moving car in case of an emergency. The public service message by the Government, “Speed thrills but Kills” is often ignored.
It was observed that most of the young drivers pushing their cars to the limit were actually few years shorter to the legal age limit required to drive in our country.
On November 1st, 2011, Traffic Police Faisalabad has taken a positive step to fine underage drivers as result of a new campaign which aims to target the underage drivers. It has only been 24 hours and the police have already found 75 culprits
driving without license.
Sardar Muhammad Asif Khan mentioned that, “We need to ensure that everyone behind the wheel has a licence. At present there are boys as young as 12 who are driving cars. This campaign will also act as a warning to parents who hand over vehicles to underage
children. The only way to teach them a lesson is to fine these boys or seize the cars”.
Traffic Wardens throughout the city were on high alert as they had strict orders to keep a close eye on underage drivers. All the young riders were stopped and asked for the driving license and heavy fine was imposed if they fail to provide the proper documentation.
A brave step taken by the Faisalabad Police as they have not only fined the drivers but have also impounded the vehicles. The vehicles will remain under custody unless the parent or a legal guardian writes an undertaking that the children will not ride
unless achieving proper license.
A total amount of Rs.17, 900/- was also collected in return of the fines imposed to the riders. It is parent’s responsibility to keep a close eye on their kids as driving is something that can result in a serious accident.
Thousands of people lost their lives every year because of irresponsible driving. Driving carelessly puts everyone else’s life on risk as well and underage driving shall always be condemned to ensure a safe and secure traffic system.
