Renowned Hollywood actor, Gerard Butler is excited after the release of his latest venture “Machine Gun Preachers” last month, hoping that he had truly justified the character of “Sam Childers”.
“Machine Gun Preachers” tells the true story of Sam Childers, a famous drug dealer, who become a saviour for hundreds of Sudanese children. The true story portrays how the life of Mr. Childers takes a u-turn after attending a religious
conversation.
The movie is directed by Marc Foster who had been nominated for an Academy award for “Finding Neverland” and “The Kite Runner”.
Butler started his career from stage productions and went on to perform short roles in Hollywood movies (Tomorrow never dies, Tale of the Mummy) until he get the chance to act in a lead role in “Dracula 2000”.
His contributions towards his role were highly appreciated by the fans across the world. Since then, the promising and talented Scottish star has never looked back. He went on to justify the character of Phantom in Joel Schumacher’s
“The Phantom of the Opera” and represented King Leonidas in an action packed fantasy named “300”.
Butler worked along Jamie Fox (The Kingdom, Stealth) in “Law Abiding citizens” which grossed over 100 million dollars worldwide.
Speaking on the character of Sam Childers, Butler said:
“I spent quite a bit of time with Sam and got to know him, and I got a feel for him. I’m not paying JFK. I’m not playing Hitler. It’s not like I have to get every hair right on the head and every tic the character has. It’s not
like enough people know who Sam is. It’s the story and the essence of the man, and that’s what I wanted to get, and these are stories that happened to this man a while ago.”
In his interview, Butler revealed that he wholeheartedly worked in the movie and admitted that he was the right guy for this job. The 41-year-old highlighted that he had never heard of story before.
“You read this story and it’s so captivating and full of adventure and yet truth and it’s inspiring and truth.”
