Generic Facts:
- Pakistan has the second largest Muslim population in the world. It is second to Indonesia.
- About one fifth of the population lives below the international poverty line (US$1.25 per day).
- More than 60 languages are spoken in Pakistan. English is the official language of Pakistan and is used in government while Urdu is our national language.
- 96% of the population is Muslims. Just over 1.5% is Christians.
- Pakistan has the sixth largest military force in the world.
- Despite once being called the world’s most dangerous country in a British magazine (The Economist), the tourism industry is growing in Pakistan.
- The official and national sport of Pakistan is field hockey. Cricket, however, is the most popular sport. The national side won the ICC World Cup in 1992.
- Pakistan qualified for the Golf World Cup for the first time in 2009.
- About 1.7 million refugees from Afghanistan live in Pakistan.
- Pakistan is a major non-NATO ally of the United States.
- Pakistan is a founding member of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, and South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation.
- World’s largest Mosque is situated in Islamabad – Shah Faisal Mosque.
- Pakistan has the world’s largest canal based irrigation system. Dependant exclusively on the Indus River and its tributaries, this network has also irrigated a population boom.
- Pakistan is the only Muslim state to own Nuclear Power.
- Pakistani coal reserves are estimated at 850 trillion cubic feet (TCF) of gas, about 30 times higher than Pakistan’s proven gas reserves of 28 TCF.

- 4th largest producer of Apricot, Cotton and Sugarcane.
- 5th largest producer of Milk and Onion.
- 6th largest producer of Date Palm.
- 7th largest producer of Mango.
- 8th largest producer of Tangerines, mandarin orange and Rice.
- 9th largest producer of Wheat.
- 10th largest producer of Oranges.
Dilemma:
Despite all these fascinating facts and mesmerizing sceneries, our country is sunk deep in miserable conditions. We are responsible for all this!
If our leaders never accepted the slavery of America in 1950’s, Pakistan would have been one of the most enriched and developed countries of the world.
