Continued from the previous part …
Famous historian, Stanley Lane-Poole says, "The Arab conquest of Sind is merely an episode in the history of India and of Islam, a triumph without result.”
However, this statement is not true, considering the events that occurred in India after the Arab invasion. It was because of Mohammad Bin Qasim that the light of Islam penetrated in India. There was immense exchange of culture and education
between the Indians and the Arabs during that period.
The invasion of Sind also taught Muslims a lesson that Sind is not the right path to enter in India and this is the reason why, Mahmood Ghaznavi and the future conquerors attacked India from the north-west.
Whenever, a historian will talk about the Muslim invasions of India, Mohammad Bin Qasim’s name would have to be right up there. The founding father of Pakistan, Quaid e Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah believed, “Pakistan came into being the day
the very first non-Muslim in sub-continent entered the fold of Islam.” One can also claim that it was the young Arab General who laid the foundation of two-nation theory in India and has an indirect role in the making of Pakistan.
However, such a fantastic hero could only rule Sind for a mere three years before his life came to a tragic end.
Back in Arab, the caliphate went into the hands of Khalifah Suleyman, who was not in good terms with Hajjaj Bin Yousuf. The Caliph sacked Hajjaj as the Governor of Eastern Provinces and ordered the arrest of Qasim from India. The later was
captured and sent to Mesopotamia, where the conqueror of Sind was tortured to death, which was surely one of the greatest losses for the world of Islam, and a black chapter in its history.
The military and administrative success of Mohammad Bin Qasim forms one of the most brilliant chapters in the history of Indo-Pakistan. He was a born leader and a man of versatile genious. His short life, which is full of illustrious achievement
and a tragic death makes Mohammad Bin Qasim as one of the romances of the history.
However, because of his extra-ordinary impact on the history of Islam and especially of the sub-continent, Mohammad Bin Qasim will live in the history forever as a great soldier and statesman for the world of Islam.
