Soaring prices of sacrificial animals force people to give a miss to Eid-ul-Azha

Lahore, November 3: The 30 to 40 percent increase in the prices of sacrificial animals has forced people to give a miss to Eid-ul-Azha as they cannot buy the animals for this religious occasion.

The floods came as a result of heavy rains in the last few months have played the key role in the high prices of livestock. These soaring prices have created a worrying sign that a huge number of people will not be able to buy animals to sacrifice.

The high inflation rate, unemployment and high prices of the basic amenities of life are the major problems which have made the average man broke. These problems are affecting people and have deprived them to perform this religious ceremony as they do not
have so much money in their pockets to buy the high-priced animals.

Last year, the prices of an average goat and lamb were approximately 14,000 to 20,000 rupees. However this time, the prices have gone quit high as sacrificial animals with the same conditions are ranging from 20,000 to 30,000.

Those animals which are of good quality are available at the cost of 30,000 to 45,000, which is almost 40 percent high as compared to last year’s prices. An average cow is available in the market at the price of approximately 55,000 to 75,000 and the cost
of a good quality cow goes even higher.

This is an alarming situation and it is expected that 20 to 30 percent people will not be able to buy the sacrificial animals this time. Among the remaining people, almost 30 to 40 percent people are willing to go for collective sacrifices.

Seven sale points in Lahore have been fixed by the City District Government Lahore (CDGL), which are Shahpur Kanjran, LDA Avenue I on Raiwind Road, Rajbah Road Daroghawala, Ghaziabad in Tajpura area, Galaxo Factory at Ferozepur Road, Matches Factory Shahdara
and China Scheme D Block.

Besides these sale points, no other point will be allowed to anyone and all those people will be punished who form any other sale point in the city.
