Is Eid-ul-Adha celebrated in true spirit in Pakistan?

Eid-ul-Adha, is a Muslims’ religious festival as well as an obligation, which is also called a ‘Festival of Sacrifice’. All the Muslims, who are financially capable, are supposed to execute this religious obligation.

Although, Muslims from all over the world celebrate it with high religious spirit; but is it really celebrated in the way, it should be?

If we just talk about the celebration of Eid-ul-Adha in Pakistan, we can see that some of the people use this sacred obligation as a source to show off their status to the people in their family as well as in their surroundings.
There starts a competition between the families and between the residents of a locality; as one has to show, how rich he/she is than is competitor.

Some of the people buy expensive animals and even there start formal competitions among different groups, where the people not only compare the prices of the animals, but also their weights and beauty. Recently some of the private
TV channels showed a competition, where they named the costliest oxen, rams and goats, along with their buyers. The exhibition, also announced the names of the buyers, who bought the heaviest animals.

Sometimes the people, who even don’t have resources to perform this religious duty due their financial conditions, have to borrow money, so that they could maintain a social standing in their surroundings. It would be no wrong
to say that there has developed a social set up in Pakistan, where the Muslims hardly celebrate this festival with intentions of religious obligation, rather there system with fake social statuses compels them to do so.

When time comes to divide the meat after slaughtering the animals, people hardly think of the way, the religion has told to distribute it equally. They prefer to give out the meat amongst their relatives and friends, no matter
whether they need it or not. Even some of the people like to store it, so that they could use it for a long time.

Being Muslim, one should realise the real purpose of this “Festival of Sacrifice’ and should celebrate it with intentions of religious obligations, rather than using it as a ‘status symbol.
