Pakistan Cycling Federation institutes three events a year after the success of Kaghan Cycling event

Following in the footsteps of a successfully organized cycling event in the Kaghan valley in September this year, Pakistan Cycling Federation (PCF) has now decided to hold at least three international cycling events in the year starting from 2012.

Secretary General, Pakistan Cycling Federation (PCF) Syed Azhar Ali Shah Wednesday said that the organization has taken the step in order to boost tourism and commercial activity in the region to help chart out strategies to revive the dilapidated tourism
industry.

The meeting was held in Lahore Gymkhana and was the first of its kind held under the banner of PCF. All units of the country including Wapda, Army, Railways, Sui Southern Gas, Sind, Baluchistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and FATA were present on the occasion apart
from the Punjab council of PCF.

The recent decision by the PCF probably finds its roots in the recently held Himalayas International Mountain Bike Race in Kaghan Valley in September where several renowned cyclists of the world participated to paddle their way in the highest mountain ranges
in the world.

“I was asked by my family and friends not to go Pakistan, as it’s a dangerous country for the foreigners, but now here I am feeling that they were jealous to me, as I have witnessed a paradise on the earth and rare hospitality of the people,” Martin Frano
of Slovakia said.

42 international men and women cyclists, including 11 top Pakistani cyclists contested in the event and the international athletes dispelled any rumours that the country is not safe for the foreign tourists and agreed that the country has an amazing skyline
when it comes to mountains and lakes.

“Media has been portraying wrong picture of Pakistan abroad and people are scared to visit or even think of visiting Pakistan in such circumstances, but the truth is contrary to this view,” Frano added.

The apathetic attitude of the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) towards the promotion of the scenic resorts and mountain ranges in the country has gone to the extent of criminal levels. The massive corruption within the department has done
little to help the local tour operators who have been fighting the losing battle on their own.
