Apple’s iPod Nano becomes a new sensation, a different use of the MP3 player altogether
Saturday, November 5th, 2011 6:46:48 by Usman KhalidApple, Inc.’s iPod Nano might have been on its death bed but some latest tweaks have instilled a new life to this near-to-be-discarded device.
Apple fanatics have always been fiddling with several of its products like iPad custom-made dock with a keyboard, to turn it into a slate-laptop hybrid.
However, the latest accessory in market has changed the market dimensions of Nano altogether. It is fair to state that Apple might be forced to upgrade some of its features in the near future.
New wrist-watch straps, that recently hit the market, have some innovative potential to them albeit a clock-dial in them. The new wrist-bands are exclusively designed for iPod Nano to be nestled in as a digital-cum-analogue watch.
The MP3 player has more than 50 different dial-options in both analogue and digital styles. Truth be told, except a few factors, Nano is the next big thing in such market, as a watch and a music player, simultaneously.
The player has several watch-dial options that undoubtedly look attractive on a dense and colourful screen that is touch-sensitive. The new-bee-wrist-watch has the capability of playing songs as well as crystal-clear videos. Given massive 8 to 16 GB storage
capacity, the ‘watch’ can be used to see full-length movies.
Despite these ‘innovative’ features, the iPod has some hardware shortcomings; perhaps Apple never really foresaw it as a watch.
The Nano is not water-proof, not even near to being water-resistant either. Therefore, while wearing it if one is urged to wash his/her hands, the whole $149 goes ‘down the drain’. However, it can be anticipated that Apple will make the next Nano model a
water-proof device.
Another snag to the player is its charging. Normal wrist-watches don’t have this hassle as they have a long-lasting battery cell inside. The iPod battery on the other hand lasts for some days, at best.
This however, does not hinder its popularity. One is forced to take the watch off of his wrist instead of tugging into bed with it at night; which can crack the expensive touch screen, while leaning into the ‘dream world’.
Moreover, it has open set of ports at one side which gives an immensely absurd look for a wrist-watch. However, this problem is expected to be address in future models with either a fix to the current 30-pin charger port or to the casing by providing a lid
cover where these slots are.
Due to the increasing trend toward iPod-turned-watch, it is expected that Apple will upgrade the Nano with a water-resistant chassis and closed ports, in addition to an Apple’s own wristband. It is also speculated to incorporate Bluetooth to its miniature
frame.
