Banks face cash shortage due to cancelled PIA flights in chitral

A contractor Najm Riaz told Chitraltimes.com that he could not get cheque cashed from a bank because of which he will not be in a position to pay the remunerations of his daily wager labourers working in his construction site.
He said that such was the state with hundreds of contractors of different government departments who failed to encash their cheques in the branches of different banks in the city.
Such was the situation in the General Post Office where the people were seen in large number who had came there to receive their money sent from overseas and different areas of the country through money and Western Union. The post
office had also run short of money while the waiting people left the premises of the post office in utter disgust and shouted slogans the organization.
Salaried persons and pensioners also faced great difficulty in getting their emoluments from the banks as shortage of currency marked the Chitral banks on the eve of Eid festival.
One of the affected persons, Afzal Khan said that he had came to receive a money of his son working in Lahore but he is going back empty-handed and he did not know how to manage the expenses on the occasion of the forthcoming
Eid which is at a distance of two days.
An officer of the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) to know his version, said that due to the continued cancellation of PIA flights from Peshawar, the cash dispatched from the Treasury of State Bank in Peshawar could be received
which led to the shortfall of cash.
He said that acting in the absence of State Bank branch in the district, the NBP receives and delivers cash to the twenty-six branches of different banks in the district which are flown in from Peshawar, and cancellation of flights
disrupts this process.
He said that the salaries of government employees and pensioners, however, paid but the cheques of hefty amounts could not be cleared.

like cash exhaustion in Chitral, which is becoming frequent with the passage of time
