Government of Pakistan seeking repatriation of the three jailed players

The Government has taken a stand to repatriate three jailed Pakistani cricketers who were sentenced by the British Court in the case of corruption earlier this week.

According to the sources, the Pakistani government has directed the national cricket board and it’s High Commission in UK to hand over a detailed report of the case in order to make arrangements to get the players back in the country.

The three sentenced Pakistani players include the former team captain Salman Butt, the fast bowler Mohammad Asif and the young cricketer Mohammad Amir. The British Judge announced 30-month jail to Salman butt, 12-month to Asif and six months sentence to
Mohammad Amir who pleaded guilty before the verdict was announced.

The interior minister of Pakistan Rehman Malik confirmed the reports that the meetings are scheduled to seek repatriation of the guilty players.

“The government would consider bringing the three players home. We have also requested Pakistan’s High Commissioner to the UK, Wajid Shamsul Hassan, to provide necessary legal aid to them and he has been asked to submit a report.”

While talking to the media, Rehman Malik further stated that it’s very unfortunate that the Pakistani players were involved in corruption and the British court jailed them. However the government of Pakistan are looking forward to do the investigation on
their own and take necessary steps to avoid such incidents in the future.

“During a high-level meeting, president Zardari on Friday directed the PCB to submit a report which should include recommendations on how to avoid a repeat of such incidents.  It’s unfortunate what happened, the government will form a commission to investigate
the matter thoroughly and the players will not be left alone,” said Malik.

While the case was completely monitored and handled by the British courts, the investigation in Pakistan will make further clarification of how much the Pakistani players were involved in corruption.
