Jim Carrey’s Mr. Popper’s Penguins

Mr. Popper’s Penguins is a family comedy film starring Jim Carrey and is based on the children’s book of the same name. It was premiered on 17^th June worldwide and reached Pakistan a week later.

The film centres Thomas Dylan Popper Jr. or Mr. Popper (played by Carrey), who is a confused figure when it comes to important things in life. He is a divorced realtor, whose father travels around the world. However, after his
father died, Popper inherited six penguins which changed his life. These penguins not only transformed his elegant apartment into a winter wonderland but also turned his life upside down.

Carla Gugino is the female lead in this movie and she is playing the role of Carrey’s ex-wife, Amanda Popper. Madeline Carroll and Maxwell Perry Cotton are starring as their kids.

Filmed on a refrigerated soundstage with real Emperor Penguins, Mr. Popper’s penguins received mixed reviews from critics. A review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes stated, “Blandly inoffensive and thoroughly predictable, Mr. Popper’s
Penguins could have been worse — but it should have been better.”

47 percent of 133 critics gave an average rating of 5.2 out of 10 at Rotten Tomatoes.
First Stop News on the other hand gave the film a comparatively better rating of 6.8/10, calling the film "charming" but "predictable".

The film earned $6.4 million on opening day and $18.4 million over the three-day weekend. It was ranked third after Green Lantern and Super 8 in the American and Canadian Box office. In its second weekend, the comedy flick faced
competition from Cars 2 dropped to $10.1 million and to fifth spot.

Originally Ben Stiller was starring as Mr. Popper but dropped out from the project. Among Owen Wilson and Jack Black, Carrey was chosen to play the lead role. Filming began in October 2010 and ended in January 2011. It was supposed
to release on August 12, 2011 but moved up to June, 2011. Rhythm and Hues Studios did the penguin animation for certain shots. 

The 94 minutes comedy flick, Mr. Popper’s Penguins is a good way to have some laughs with your family and friends and to spend your time. With Carrey’s comedy and cute little penguins, you can’t say no to this movie.
