Adobe Flash still struggles in the eyes of Steve Jobs
Thursday, November 10th, 2011 5:33:15 by Usman KhalidApple, Inc.’s first mobile device, the original iPhone, did not incorporate Adobe’s Flash plug-ins and since then the company has always averted from the so-called mobile versions released by Adobe.
The first problem being, Apple’s co-founder, late Steve Jobs. The technology maestro never approved of the mobile versions of Flash and from time after time directed the opprobrium toward him. But the ever wilful Jobs never took a second glance at his decisions.
Now his prediction of Adobe being incompetent in the world of mobile computing has dawned on the human kind in the recent years. Jobs did not vouch for Flash contents in his mobile devices and Adobe kept prolonging the release of its mobile version.
First in early 2009, Adobe confirmed the alleged release of its mobile Flash but then for some odd reason, the launch was delayed to latter half of the same year, then to the first half of 2010 and then to the second half. But a proper Mobile Flash, approved
by Jobs, was nowhere to be seen.
"In addition, Flash has not performed well on mobile devices. We have routinely asked Adobe to show us Flash performing well on a mobile device, any mobile device, for a few years now. We have never seen it," Jobs said on apple.com.
Further stating the delays, he said: "Adobe publicly said that Flash would ship on a smartphone in early 2009, then the second half of 2009, then the first half of 2010, and now they say the second half of 2010. We think it will eventually ship, but we’re
glad we didn’t hold our breath."
In response to Jobs’ blunt comments on Apple’s website, Adobe took serious action, filing against Apple under the public relations acts.
However, the reputation is built on performance and not on claims. Adobe is yet to show an efficient version of Flash that can justify the prerequisites of Apple’s mobile devices including iPhones, iPods and iPads.
Although Jobs had been through thick and thin in his 27 techonomic years but without a doubt, he is considered a true technology visionary, whose ideology will live through his legacy for years to come.
