From the executive producers of Lost, Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, bring a new fairy tale adventure, Once Upon a Time, showing on Sunday on ABC network. It premiered on October 23rd and comprises a total of twenty-two episodes in the first
season.
Once Upon a Time opened to ABC’s best ratings, lifting ABC to its best performance in the time period in nearly three years. It opens when the Evil Queen (Lana Parrilla) curse Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Prince Charming (Joshua Dallas) on their wedding
day. Their only saviour is their unborn daughter Emma who will rescue them after she gets 28-year-old.
In the present day, Emma Swan (starred by Jennifer Morrison), a lonely bounty hunter and bail bondsman, is approached by a 10-year-old boy, Henry, on her twenty-eighth birthday. The boy identifies himself as her son and convinces Emma to go to his home in
Storybrooke, Maine. Henry’s mother is actually the evil queen and Emma finds her suspicious, as a result she decides to stay in town for a week.
It received great reviews by the critics. New York Times critic
Mike Hale praises the lead actresses: "Once Upon a Time seemed to have the richer premise and more interesting characters, and having Ms. Goodwin (Big Love) in the cast automatically made it one of the more promising new shows.”
Tim Goodman of the Hollywood reporter, however, had an opposing review. He stated, "The show is a bold idea, and there’s hope for the modern-world portions, but it doesn’t quite know what it is (or maybe it does, but the audience won’t). ABC made episode
three available to critics as well, and — tragic ending alert! — the series appears to be getting worse, not better.”
The show is also nominated for the 2012 People’s Choice Award for ‘Favourite TV Drama.’ In addition to this, the pilot episode was watched by 13 million viewers and received a 4.0 rating in Adults 18-49. It was also the season’s number one rated drama debut
among Adults 18-49 and ABC’s biggest debut in five years.
Overall, Once Upon a Time, is of great appeal and should be on everyone’s radar.
