Two arch rivals, neighbours and atomic powers of Subcontinent, Pakistan and India, have reiterated their stands to open a new era of refined relations between them. The Prime Ministers of both nations Yousaf Raza Gilani and Manmoham Singh met at a regional
summit of SAARC in the Maldives on Thursday November 10 and expressed their wishes to enhance the table talks process in order to settle down various existing disputes between old foes.
Pakistan and India are trying to reshape their relations in many fields after a hectic series of blame game. India blamed Pakistan of backing militants who led terrorist attacks in Mumbai in 2008. Although, Pakistan denied its connections with the culprits
but the Indian leadership remained stuck to their opinion.
Meanwhile, Pakistan has also few concerns regarding Indian intervention in the adverse situation of Balouchistan. Their intelligence RAW has been allegedly supporting the rebel Balouchs to create an upheaval in the biggest province of Pakistan.
The formal peace talks between two nations were suspended after the 26/11 attacks in India city of Mumbai and the chief executives of both countries met after more than a year. Last time, they formally met on the same forum of SAARC summit 2010, held in
Bhutan the capital city of Nepal in April.
Pakistan and India are having several disputes between them including the core issue of Kashmir. The Kashmir issue which has the sides into three wars, however, remained unsolved and still demands flexible approach by the both parties.
Talking to the reporters after the one-on-one meeting that lasted for more than an hour the two leaders agreed to carry on the dialogues. Gilani declared his talks with Indian counterpart highly successful and said their conversation covered all aspects
of mutual respect. He added that, “The (Indian) prime minister has always been open and put his cards on the table. The next round of talks will… open a new chapter in the history of the two countries.”
Manmohan claimed that the next round of talks between two countries will be a historic one. He argued that, “The time has come to write a new chapter in the history of our countries. The next round of talks should be far more productive and far more practical-orientated
in bringing the two countries closer.”
